OROTHY DOWNING, a _ young Wellington pianist and teacher, has been awarded the Robert Parker Memorial Prize offered by the Music Teachers’ Registration Board, and open to registered teachers or their pupils throughout New Zealand who desire to proceed to the degree of Mus. Bac. of the University of New Zealand. The prize, which is tenable for two years, is awarded to the candidate showing the most outstanding ability in some recog. nised branch of instrumental of vocal music. : Miss Downing has already passed two subjects of the degree, having taken Mathematics: and Acoustics when she attended Victoria University College.
