It ran for 2,238 erformances, from August, 1916, until uly, 1921. It was originally entitled "The Forty Thieves." It had been written as a Christmas pantomime for the Wimbledon Theatre, and refused because of the liberties taken by the authors with ‘the Ali Baba saga. After being re-christened, it was staged at His Majesty’s to fill in a few weeks’ vacancy at the theatre.
