PRONUNCIATION OF MAORI

Sir,-Many thanks to Mr. Kohere for his helpful hints on the correct pronunciation of the Maori language. In future I will try to remember. them. I have always been conscious of the fact that I mispronounce some Maori words, A good many pakehas use Maori words wrongly because they simply do not know how to do so correctly, though some no doubt are careless. Why isn’t the language taught in all schools throughout New Zealand? I certainly wish I had had the chance to learn it. -PATRICIA McGRATH (Wanganui).
