DRAMA FESTIVAL

Auckland Arrangements RRANGEMENTS are well in hand for the Auckland elimination festival in the National Centennial One-Act Play Competition. The. festival will be held in the Town Hall concert chamber on Tuesday. July 9, Wednesday, July 10, and Friday, July 12. Thursday evening will be taken up with the competition for choirs and string quartets. The climax to the festival will be the provincial semi-final which will be staged in the Concert Chamber on the Saturday. This will consist of the two best teams from the Waikato and the two best teams from

Auckland. The adjudicators chosen are Miss Margaret Barr, late of London, for the elimination festival, and Miss May Macdonald, of the Napier Repertory Theatre, for the semi-final. Souvenir Programme It is intended to mark the occasion by publishing a sixteen page souvenir programme, in which there will be included a number of articles on the theatre in Auckland, past, present and future. There will also be paragraphs about the various dramatic societies competing and a short account of the work of thie Auckland Drama Council. Auckland has ten entries: Auckland Repertory Theatre, "Cartoon" (Coppard); Auckland Judean Dramatic Club, "Created" (Norris); Auckland Teachers’ Training College, "Sunday Costs Five Pesos" (Niggli); Avondale Women’s Institute, ‘" White Queen, Red Queen" (Morris); Auckland Centre Women’s Institute, " Get Out of Your Cage" (Plowman); Ellerslie Women’s Institute, "Number Ten" (Muriel and Sydney Box); Grafton Shakespeare and Dramatic Club, " Half-an-Hour" (Barrie); Northland Players (Whangarei), "Witch’s Brew" (Macardle); Sheridan Players, " Anti-Clock-wise" (Muriel and Sydney Box); and W.E.A. Dramatic Club, "Riders to the Sea" (Synge).
