PUBLIC SERVICE QUEEN
Estelle Boucher Of Station 1ZB T= Public Service Queen, Miss Estelle Boucher, of 1ZB, was seen by crowds of interested onlookers in Auckland's busy streets on a Friday night recently, when she took part in a procession to gather funds for the Sick, Wounded and Distress Appeal. Included in the spectacular procession were a glittering new fire engine and its crew of men, an Army lorry with soldiers in battle dress, with machine-guns at the "ready," an Army lorry drawing a small, field gun, and a St. John ambulance. Accompanied by other lorries loaded with grotesquely-clad University students and members of the Commercial Travellers’ Club, four of ‘the competing Queens were seen by the crowds of Friday night shoppers. Dressed in white and riding in a magnificent sports car, Miss Boucher made a striking picture. In response to cheers, particularly from the 1ZB windows, she gaily waved her hand and acknowledged the money flung from people in buildings and on the streets. Her car was preceded by the Public Sere vice Float. This represented the "Aotearoa" ia flight over the blue-green billowing Tasman. Both the model of the flying-boat and the "waves" were made by. members of the Gov- ernmental Departments, who worked back at night and on Saturdays to complete the job. A trip for two to Sydney by air is the principal prize offered by the Public Service Queen Carnival Committee.
