CONCERT FOR RED CROSS

LL the 2ZB folk,, including announcers, Daisy, Reg. Morgan, and K. W. Kilpatrick, Station Director, were kept " very ‘busy on a Friday afternoon, recently, . when’ they, . with the collaboration of the V.A-D.’s,, gave a, concert in the Wellington ‘Blue Triangle Hall. The Happiness Club, of -which ‘Aunt Daisy is the President, is an active society, with a great many members, who do all they can to- help the Red Cross Funds, and other patriotic measures. ‘The hall was packed to capacity, and just over £34 was netted. The concert.began with the. singing of "God Defend New Zealand" by the Belmont Leagtévof Mothers. There followed’ a burlesque mime, entitled "Jack and’ the Beanstalk," given by the 1939 Hutt © Valley Federation ‘ executives of the Women’s Institute. Mrs. Mavis: Ring had proanne the mime herself, and’ played the part "Jack". most convincingly. Mrs.- W. ‘was the "Giant," Mrs. Heathcote was. "‘Jack’s" mother, and Mrs, Foster; the "Giant's", wife. ~ From’ 3.30, Station 2ZB relayed the concert, K. W. Kilpatrick, Station Director of 2ZB opened: the broadcast, and Reg. Morgan’s session "Songs at the Piano" went over the air. ; During .this session, the, Orpheus’ Sextette sang in six-part harmony two, numbers-"She Shall Have. Music," and "The Bells of St. Mary's. a Reg. sang, to the tune of "Sussex By the. Sea,"" some clever lines on Aunt Daisy and" her "morning recipes." ‘There was a pleasant surprise’: when Aunt Daisy was handed a cheque for £10 from Mr.

and’Mrs. T. L. Jury, of ‘New Plymouth: This cheque was to swell the Red: Cros§ Fund, and Mrs. Jury, who was among the audience, "was thanked by Aunt Daisy for the generous gift. Charades acted by 2ZB announcers, -Lane Patterson, Kingi, Hori Thomas, Geoff. Lloyd and Peter Whitchurch, caused a great deal of fun: Everyone joined in the spirit of’ the game, and even if the audience didn’t guess the words correctly, they certainly gave some good substitutes! Another charade was acted by "Barbara," the Rev. Harry Squires, and Miles. Wright. There was a Florence Nightingale tableau, and another item by the Orpheus Sextette to close a happy afternoon. Prompted by the success of the gathering, Aunt. Daisy is now anxious to have another one in the near future.
