With the Branches: Dunedin recently held its annual meeting, which was attended by some Timaru members. Five of the foundation members were -present. Broadcast enthusiasts have noted the strong signal froms XERB (1090: kc/s), Rosarita Beach, California. The station has been heard in local.t.es where American zones are not strong from. 12.30 a.m. 3LK has suffered frequently, being over-ridden by XERB. KGEI, at San Francisco, broadcasts a news bulletin daily at 5.30 p.m. and again. at. midnight on 9.53 mc/s. The former is not always received.very well because of-interference from Paris Mondial on 9,52 mc/s, but. the, midnight transmission is usually 100% readable. CEC, .a commercial transmitter at Santiago, Chile, has been heard a number of times recently. about 12.30 a.m., with a musical programme. Look for it on 10.23 mc/s, but’ do not. confuse PMN Bandoeng, Java, on .10.26.mc/s. WPIT at Pittsburg -, "The Pioneer Shortwave .Broadcasting Station of the World" — is being heard with good signals on 11.87. mc/s at 3.30 p.m., when it shifts to 6.14 mc/s. It should be heard-on 11. os! mc/s also,-from 2.30 a.m... : ¢

The Rangoon, Burma, stations, XYZ on 6.007 -mc/s, and XZZ on -3.488 me/s, are now announcing -their callsigns in place of the former. simple "Rangoon calling." Both can be heard toward midnight with XYZ considerably the better signal. The Tokio transmitter jvw3 on 11.725 mec/s has a news bulletin in English every day at approximately 9.15 p.m. HCJB Quito, Ecuador,.on 12.46:me/s, is testing on its new 20 kw/s transmitter on Tuesdays about :2 p.m. Its daily schedule on this. frequency. is: 4 to 7, 9.30a.m. to 3p.m., and 11.30 p.m. to 12.45 am., with no’ transmissions from 3 p.m. Mondays to 11.30 p.m. Tuesdays. The Chinese Central Broadcasting Administration’s station XGOY is transmitting a programme to North America daily from 2:to 2.40 am. on 9:64 mce/s, commencing with .a news bulletin relayed also to XPSA Kweiyang on-7,01 mc/s. Signals are usually good. Sarawak is now on the. air. VQF, at Kuching, with 50 watts power, is broadcasting news for the benefit: of local residents on Saturdays from 12.10 p.m, The frequency is 6.985 mc/s, so there is little chance of its being heard in New Zealand.
