BBC Finance
The cost of running the BBC is no longer being borne out of listeners’ licence fees. By an agreement made between the Post-master-General, the BBC, and the Ministry of Information, the Ministry is to pay the Corporation an annual sum based on representations from the Corporation. It is to be "sufficient for the adequate conduct of the services.’ Licence fees go into the Treasury. Before the war, the BBC controlled its own finance, although it was not allowed to use the surplus of licence receipts over expenditure
