CHRISTCHURCH WELCOME CLUB
Talent Among the Troops at Burnham \ X 7 ITH the Second Echelon now in Burnham Camp, the Christchurch Welcome Club re-com-menced its activities in January, and 3ZB was once more on the job. A feature of the entertainments for the First Echelon was the exceptionally high standard of performances by the troops themselves, who were at all times ready to entertain. Judging from their recent efforts, the present trainees are in no way lacking in wrt: ability. Items by the troops included whistling solos, piano accordion items, and items from many excellent singers. A specialty number introduced, probably for the first time’ in Christchurch, was the " Jitterbug " Competition, which provoked wild enthusiasm. By a prcc:ss of elimination the winners were selected and agreed to give an exhibition number. Incidentally, the whistler proved his versatility by winning the " Jitterbug" competition. The Welcome Club has been fortunate in securing the services of the band which entertained the boys of the First Echelon, and of course " Jacko" puts his usual enthusiasm into the exacting job of "master of ceretmonies." All in all, first class entertaintment was provided for the troops, as well as good listening for 3ZB’s radio audience.
