FROM THE CITY OF THE PLAINS

ANCY ESTALL started to learn N the ’cello some years ago under Harold Beck in Christchurch. After about 4142 years with Mr. Beck she started teaching and playing professionally. In 1936 she studied for the L.R.S.M., and was rewarded with a Royal Academy scholarship, of which she was not able to take advantage. Instead, she started giving recitals with Mr. Glaysher, harpist, and she broadcast also from 1YA and 2YA. During 1936 she attended Canterbury College to study for the degree of Bachelor of Music under Dr. Bradshaw. She visited Australia in May of last year to study under Edmund Kurtz, famous Russian ’cellist.
