1ZB JOHN BATTEN’S FILM SESSION 4.15 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays 2ZB HIGHLIGHTS FROM OPERA 7.45 p.m. Thursdays 3ZB MEET SALLY 3.45 p.m. Mondays. and Tuesdays 4ZB THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG 7.45 p.m. Thursdays 2ZA THE DUCKWORTH DUO 6.30 p.m. Mondays

accustomed to hearing a most helpful session conducted by "Shona" every , weekday © afternoon at 4.30. A portrait of her by Roy Scott appears on this page. The owner of the attractive voice heard at this time is Mrs. Tony Lee, who is, no doubt, quite a familiar figure to most visitors to 2ZB, in view of the fact that she was, for a long time, a receptionist there. " Shona" has made rapid LE to 2ZB are by now

strides since she joined the Service’ and began her duties as a receptionist at 4ZB Dunedin. When she came to Wellington on transfer she was chief receptionist. When John Batten was transferred to Auckland some time ago, " Shona," who had already made her debut on the air in association with Bryan O’Brien in the Children’s Session, was asked to fill the bill, and without any fuss or bother, stepped in and made a most competent job of the task of running the quarter-hour session which now bears her name. Listen in to her at 4.30: ‘Pm. daily. New Fashion Talks Newest voice at 3ZB is that of "Molly," who broadcasts on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 3.45 p.m. These are fashion talks; or it might be said that they are examples of what fashion talks ought to be. Naturally not everyone. who knows about fashions knows anything at all about the use of the voice. That is precisely where " Molly" scores. She is an expert where fashions are concerned; and also she knows a good deal about elocution. Hence Molly’s fashion talks are charmingly presented. And no words are wasted. Listening to Molly is time well spent. " Musical Bingo "" Station 3ZB at the moment is aed ing a new session — another of. the

kind in which listeners are able to take part. It will rejoice in the title of "Musical Bingo." "Bingo" is not in’ the dictionary; but 3ZB’s retort to that is that it ought to be, and that at any rate it will soon be included in the vocabulary of the Station’s many listeners. The full details of this competition will be announced soon from the station. Meanwhile it is enough to say that it is a session concerning music, and that it will test fairly comprehensively the competitor's musical knowledge. More than that, however, it will demand quick thinking. It is therefore a competition containing enough interest and enough surprises for even those who are unusually quick-witted. Times Changed For. the information of listeners, 3ZB advises changes in times for the following broadcast:Musical Crosswords will be heard at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesdays instead of Satardays. On to Wellington After Christchurch had _ farewelled 3ZB’s Geoff Lloyd, Wellington has greeted him. ‘Though it was not many months since Geoff went to Christchurch from 4ZB, in that short time he made himself .extremely popular. It was Geoff who introduced Musical Crosswords to Christchurch (a session that now will be carried on by Jack Bremner). However, Geoff did.not leave Christchurch without saying good-bye in the grand, if unorthodox, manner. A week ago he appeared at. the "Scotch" Community Sing, and, to everyone’s delight, sang "his (own. (very: much- his. own), version of Annie. Laurie. With The Costers "Many weeks of preparation and effort on the part of a tireless committee of people has culminated in a handsome sum of. money being assured- for the new quarters. of the Fielden-Taylor Boys’ Hostel. The last item in more than ‘a week’s carnival was the Coster Ball held: in the Wellington Town Hall on Wednesday. In every way the affair was @ distinctive one. The Hall itself was decorated with many reminders of London and the Cockney. people. Street "lamps illuminated the Hall, flower girls greeted one at the entrance, a Cockney supper was provided — cold meat, pickles, saveloys, black puddings, crayfish and celery; and ’Arry and ’Arriet paraded in their pearlies in-one of the finest "do’s" ever seen in Wellington. 2ZB conducted a broadcast of this successful function, and listeners-in could hardly help catching the infectious spirit of the affair. Good Advertisement Marina, whose radio talks on health and nutrition are so popular with listeners, paid a flying visit to Wellington recently to inaugurate a similar scheme of talks at 2ZB. In support of Marina’s

health talks, it is interesting to~ note that since joining 1ZB’s staff two years ago she has not had:even one hour’s sick leave. " Leaves from Life " With the absence of Dorothy in Eng: land, Marina is conducting the popular "Leaves from Life Session". broadcast from 1ZB on Tuesdays and Thursdays at’ 4 p.m. "Leaves from: Life" is. conducted by a woman for women only, and consists of broadcast. stories written’ Ly listeners of actual true: life happenings: A prize is. offered every session _for the best story sent in, Tribute to Ratana The Commercial Broadcasting Service aired a network broadcast in memory of the late Maori leader, T.:W. Ratana. In the capable hands of :Oriwa Tahupotiki Haddon,. this. broadcast was splendidly presented, and was‘a fitting tribute to one who so ‘long: held high place in the hearts of his people. The speaker’s fine voice, eloquent of the poetry and music of the native tongue, was heard against, a background . of plaintive chanting as his musical words seemed ‘to launch the canoe.which bore the great chief on: his ‘journey across

the great Sea of Kiwa. After referring to the prophet’s long line of priestly ancestors, the speaker paid tribute to the unfailing spirit which guided » the Ratana destiny and said that the magnificent church at Ratana Pa would stand as the founder’s living memoria; In an eloquent peroration, the speakesé declared that "the greenstone jewel ox a great man’s memory would be kept bright," a memory to which both Maori and Pakeha would gladly pay homagé. Impressive to a degree, the broadcgst was listened to with intense interest by the thousands of Maoris who had gathered at Ratana Pa for the funeral obsequies,
