With The Branches The South Dunedin Branch is busy finalising arrangements for its annual social, which promises to be as successful as previous functions. The Branch is proud of the interest which its Patron, the Hon. F. Jones, has always taken in its affairs. The ‘Wellington Branch President, RB. Beauchamp, was a recent visitor to Dunedin. Brevities "Radio Saigon," French Indo-China, operating on 1000 kc. with 2000 watts power, has been heard at approximately 1 a.m. A woman announcer gives the full station call. An item of importance to radio enthusiasts is the mews that a Dunedin DXer reports hearing ZTC, Capetown, South Africa, on 600 kc. at approximately 4 am. New Zealand Standard Time. South African broadcast stations share with Alaskan broadcasters the reputation’ of being the most difficult to hear in New Zealand. It is about six years since a South African station was verified by a New Zealand DXer. A new Australian station is now operating at Lithgow, N.S.W., with call 2LT. The frequency is 1080 kc., power 200 watts.

Other Australian news is that 2XL has changed frequency from 880 kc. to 920; 3UL from 900 to 880; 5MU from 1450 to 1460 kc. It is doubtful if ever before in radio history there have been as many stations operating simultaneously as there were during the week preceding the outbreak of war. Shortwave News VK2MA, Amalgamated Wireless’s ultra short-wave transmitter on 42.86 m.c. is reported to. be on the air daily from 5.30 to 11.30 p.m. in addition to its relays of VK2ME on Sunday evenings and Monday mornings. The Canadian Government has decided to build a National shortwave ‘station to relay programme throughout the world, but no date is given for its commencing operations. A new’ Cuban station should be audible shortly on 9.437 m.c. Its call is COCN, power 5,000 watts, and it will be located. on the main highway between Havana and Guanabacoa. "Radio Guadeloupe," FG8AH at Point-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, in the West Indies, is expected to put into effect shortly an extended schedule and announce. regularly in English. Its frequency is 7.445 m.c,
