With The Branches The Wellington Branch at its last meeting was able to welcome a new member, A. C. McCarthy, and also greet H.Q. Publicity Officer, E. W. Watson, of Christchurch. The competitions for the month were won by R. Clarke, broadcast, and G. Rigg, shortwave, with Konigsberg and W9AM respectively. The latter verification was for an 11-watt station on board ship and was heard operating while the vessel was off the West Coast of Africa. We have just been advised that a new branch has been formed in the North Island to be known as the Northland Branch with headquarters at Whangarei. The officers are J. A. Langridge, President, and R. A. Roycroft, Secretary (21 Anzac Road). Brevities That KMTR, Hollywood, is appreciative of reports of its transmissions is instanced in a letter to Mrs. Day, Timaru. The letter of verification takes the form of an attractive folder of views of station, which is designed on early Californian architectufal lines even to an old mission bell which tolls the hour, ‘It adds that KMTR’s best long distance reports come from N.Z. and Australia. KMTR "at the top of the dial" operates on 570 k.c. (same as 2YA), and is
heard throughout N.Z. at 12.30 a.m. N.Z. Summertime. E. O, Featonby, Wellington, a recent member, writes enclosing a list of stations — broadcast and shortwave — logged by him. He admits that shortwave claims his main interest and has 9MI VQ7LO TAP ZHJ ZHL HS8PJ TGWA SPW PMN and Radio Saigon among others. Clayton E. Clark, Philadelphia, an old RA member, sends greetings. (Thanks-you will be welcome at Wellington Branch-DX Ed.) From Westport: H. Burdon says that since transfer from Timaru he has been trying to form a West Coast branch. Anyone interested communicate Box 20, Westport. A report to 2RO Rome brought 2 verification cards and a parcel of literature dealing with Italian state: enter-prises-industrial and social welfare. TGWA Guatemala City reported on DX programme-the station offered a pound of coffee to first 12 reports from distant listeners. Also heard XEWW Mexico City. From Perth we are advised that it is expected that 6TZ, a new station, is expected on the air at the end of August. Frequency will probably be 1340 k.c. Randolph Hunt, California, an R.A. member advises KECA Los Angeles has changed from 1430 to 780 k.c.
