"ELIZA COMES TO STAY.”
“OUR DAY” APPEAL.
Seldom has such interest been taken in an amateur performance as that evinced in the forthcoming production of Esmond’s smart little comedy “Eliza Conies to Stay,” which is to be staged in the Town Hall Concert Chamber next Thursday and Friday (October 4 and 5). Miss Ada Reeve holds the sole rights of this play, but has kindly given permission for the present production. “Eliza Comes to Stay,” which is brimful of happy humour, ran for over two years in London. Smart frocking will be a special feature representing fashion in her latest mode. Ser-geant-Major Herbert J. Bentley, the Australasian actor, will produce the play and Mr. W. J. Crowther will be stage manager. Lady Walker will take the leading part, and the rest of the cast includes Mr. A. L. Denniston, Mr. F. E. de Guerrier, Mr. Wallace Atkinson, Mr. J. G. H. Mackay, Mrs. Alexander Kinder, Miss Jessie Geddes, Mrs. Mackay, and Bobby Geddes. The orchestra will be supplied by the 3rd (Auckland) Regimental Mounted Band. The play will be presented under the auspices of the Victoria League Red Cross Fund Committee, and the entire proceeds go to “Our Day” appeal. Rehearsals are well in hand, and the public can rely on a fine interpretation.
