A DOG’S GOOD MEMORY.

When President David Starr Jordan, o the Leland Stafford Junior University, at Palo Alto, California, was president of the Indiana University, he owned a fine St. Bernard dog. This animal was very intelligent, and exceedingly fond of his master. He went to the post-office after President Jordan’s mail, and was otherwise accomplished. Being about to leave Bloomington, Dr. Jordan gave the dog to a friend, Professor Hoffman. On the night of his departure the members of the faculty went to the station, and with them was the dog. Before entering his car Dr. Jordan stooped and patted the dog on the head. Shortly after this Professor Hoffman noticed that bis dog was absent at a certain period in the day. The telegraph operator also noticed the daily visits of the dog to the station on the arrival and departure of the two o’clock train, and sent word to Professor Hoffman. The dog came every day, and waited patiently for the approach of the train. As it neared the station he would prick up his ears and observe the arrivals. It was only when the train had passed out of sight that the dog would depart.
