M. Leo. Lippano, who was consul for the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg at Amsterdam, has left his gallery of pictures, said to be worth 500,000 francs, to the town of Luxemburg. The bequest will not take effect until the death of Mdme Lippano.

Miss Helen Taylor, step-daughter of John Stuart Mill, is to write his biography for the series known as " English Philosophers."

Cardinal Manning lately became ill through fasting. His physician insisted upon his taking more nourishment, and he is recovering. O
