'Old Blue' for Former General Manager
Forest and Bird councillors farewelled Lyn Bates, who has been general manager of the Society for the past six-and-a-half years, during the November council meeting at Karapiro, Waikato. ‘Lyn has had a long, dedicated, and very productive association with Forest and Bird, said the national president, Dr Gerry McSweeney, presenting her with an "Old Blue’ award for her services to the Society. ‘She has experienced and contributed to our Society at all levels — including as a member, as a Kiwi Conservation Club coordinator and chairman of the Central Auckland branch, he said. The citation to the award (a picture of the black robin female which saved her species from extinction) records her service as general manager. ‘In that position, Lyn has had a profound and beneficial impact on the functioning of the Society, management of administration staff, promotion of the Society, and the
strengthening of relations between branches and the central office. ‘Our Kiwi Conservation Club, the Society’s central involvement in the Threatened Species Trust, the careful and professional management of the Society’s reserves and the healthy state of our finances are a tribute to Lyn’s dedication and efficiency. We honour Lyn’s service to Forest and Bird and to New Zealand nature conservation. ‘ Lyn Bates has moved to Tauranga to live.
