The Waitakere Branch of Forest and Bird has launched a fundraising appeal for an extensive pest-control programme over 2000 hectares of the forested ranges. Donors can sponsor the protection of a hectare of the Ark in the Park project area, or the reintroduction of wildlife lost from the Waitakere Ranges. Forest and Bird has already started predator control in the Ark in the Park area. It is hoped to expand pest control to a larger area, so forest restoration and the reintroduction of species such as robin and whiteheads can begin. Details may be found on the Ark in the Park website (at www.forestandbird.org.nz).
