Antarctica: the Blue Continent
by David McGonigal and Dr Lynn Woodworth, 224 pages hardbound, Random House New Zealand, Auckland 2002, RRP $49.95 Subtitled The Last Great Wilderness, this large-format volume is a comprehensive presentation on the nature and geography of the continent, and the
etl = history of its exploration. Each succinct essay occupies a double-page spread including striking photographs. It is the work of a team of experts(who nevertheless write coherently), describing aspects of the Environment, Regions, Wildlife and Exploration. This volume succeeds a 2001 edition which was printed on even bigger pages, and adds 60 more pages of information. It should answer most of the questions a lay person might have, besides being a very handsome book.
