Getting it Right at Matuku Reserve
Our report on the extension of Matuku Reserve, in Forest e Bird for November 2002, inadvertently included a picture of a North Island robin when what was intended was a tomtit, numbers of which are already present in the Waitakere Ranges. John Staniland, who is fund-raising for Waitakere Forest and Bird comments: "The mistake could be seen as
prophetic as it is planned that robin will be introduced to the Waitakere Ranges, possibly even directly into Matuku Reserve? The purchase of nearly 20 hectares of rainforest, upstream of the present reserve, is costing $165,000, less a grant of $140,000 from the Government’s Nature Heritage Fund, hence the continued appeal.
