Fensham Group Receives DoC Award
embers of the Fensham Group of Wairarapa Forest and Bird have been honoured again for their work in managing the Society’s Fensham Reserve. This time they received an award from the Department of Conservation and the Wellington Conservation Board. Their award was for ‘Kaitiakitanga’ — meaning guardianship — of the reserve in Carterton over the past
eight years. ‘It has been a full spare-time activity for the nine member group involving securing protection for the area, developing and maintaining a track network, organising community plantings, controlling pests, wetland restoration and educational activity, they report. They were previously awarded the Society’s ‘Old Blue’ award for this work.
