New Conservation Manager Appointed

orest and Bird’s new conservation manager is Eric Pyle, aged 37, who has particular knowledge of resource management and an extensive background in conservation policy development. Previously with the World Wide Fund for Nature, Eric Pyle has been in the conservation sector all his working life, including positions with the Department of Conservation, the Ministry for the Environment, and the former Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. He has also worked overseas, from 1992-94 as an environmental scientist in Eire and England, advising on catchment and statutory planning associated with water. In 1999 he returned to Eire, briefly, to review the environmental performance of

the Republic of Ireland as part of an OECD review team. Eric Pyle has a masters degree with honours in natural resource management and a bachelors degree in physics. His appointment follows a fourmonth process which attracted applicants from both New Zealand and overseas, including Australia, the United States, Japan, South Africa and Belgium.
