Life-size Guide to Insects and other Land Invertebrates of New Zealand
by Andrew Crowe, 32pp, Penguin Books, Auckland 1999, limp RRP$24.95. Following the success of a Life-size Guide to Native Trees (their leaves of course), Andrew Crowe has done an even more interesting job on the insects and other small creatures of the garden. Photographs are supplemented by notes on occurrence and outstanding characteristics, and include Maori names and lore. It’s remarkable
how much useful information is condensed into the brief captions. The smallest creatures are also represented in magnifications. Much of this fascinating book has subsequently been published as a Nature Flip Guide — a double-sided wall chart folding to half the size of this book, at RRP $19.95.
