Ellerslie Flower Show

Lyn Bates

)) @&* veate a wildlife haven | in your garden’, was "Sees the Forest and Bird theme at the Ellerslie Flower Show in late November. Lyn Bates, the Society’s general manager, was ably assisted at the stand by volunteers from Auckland branches, and Society leaflets were handed out to thousands. During the six-day show, 115 new members were signed up. They were offered the incentives of a kiwi poster, a free magazine and a native plant. We are hopeful that many more forms will come back by

post. Special thanks go to Jan Riddick and Kit Howden, branch chairs in South Auckland and Central Auckland respectively, for the many hours of planning, set construction, and the collection of plants for display and free give-aways. The show provides great exposure for Forest and Bird among thousands of gardeners who travel from all parts of the North Island. It was especially rewarding to talk to those existing and often long-standing members who identified them-

selves.
