Kokako country near Kaharoa, Rotorua district where a community trust is undertaking predator control to protect the birds. The area, known as Aislabie's Block, was purchased by the Department of Conservation in the 1980s after a campaign by Forest and Bird. Deep gorges almost surround the block forming a natural barrier against predators.
