Celebrating in Coromandel
Forest and Bird enthusiasts in the Upper Coromandel has grown from a sub-group of the Thames Forest and Bird to become a Section, then in 1996, a full Branch of the Society. Upper Coromandel Forest and Bird now has some 100 members, and at a party, celebrating 10 years of activity, two of the : n just 10 years, a group of
guests had memberships of more than 50 years each. ‘The branch has achieved much in 10 years, writes committee member, Tina Morgan. Besides the hard work of submissions and practical conservation work, there have been great occasions such as trips to Great Barrier Island, releasing weka on Whanganui Island in
Coromandel Harbour, and a tour of Hawaii with a local member who lives in the island of Kaua’i. Upper Coromandel Forest and Bird ‘anticipates with pleasure the next 10 years, and hopes that the achievements, the fun, and the friendships continue to aid in the preservation of the beautiful area we live in, she says.
