A feral cat caught on Little Barrier Island. After an intensive and successful campaign to eradicate cats from the island in 1978-80, the numbers of stichbirds multiplied sixfold and the robin and parakeet populations also increased markedly. Saddlebacks, earlier eliminated by cats, were successfully re-established on the island.
