Kiwi pictorial cheques give a new twist to the term cheque book ecology. It’s your chance to join with the Bank of New Zealand to help save the Kiwi. By ordering pictorial cheques, a $2 donation will be automatically deducted from your cheque account for each book and passed directly on to the Kiwi Recovery team. The Kiwi is threatened The Kiwi is superbly adapted to its natural environment. In that sense, it can survive and flourish on its own account. What’s putting it on the wrong side of the survival balance sheet are introduced threats such as dogs, stoats, possums, wild cats and pigs. Humans, primarily through destroying forests and introducing these predators, pose the single greatest threat to the Kiwi. Kiwi Recovery Programme in 1991. In combining research and action to are the Kiwi, members of the team have already discovered there are actually at least six varieties of Kiwi, not five as previously believed. What hasn’t changed is the threat they face. Kiwi pictorial cheques

Kiwi pictorial cheques operate exactly as standard cheques, with your name and
account number appearing on each cheque. If you already have a Bank of New Zealand cheque account, they operate on that account.
Okarito Brown Kiwi were identified as a distinct variety early in 1993. That was thanks to blood sampling and DNA testing supported by the Kiwi Recovery Programme. They too, however, face extinction if things don’t change.

The Prize Draw will be drawn on 20 September 1993, by the Bank of New Zealand and the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society. Prize winners will be contacted personally by the Bank of New Zealand. The prize is the choice of either: i) a trip for four to travel with the Department of Conservation to a Bird Sanctuary of your choice. Travel costs and 2 night’s accommodation are also included, or ii) a framed, limited edition print selected by the prize winners from the range of six prints. The framed prints measure approximately 52 x 76cm and are individually signed and numbered by the 1992 Wildlife Artist of the Year, Pauline Morse.
