A strange accident, which terminated fatally, occurred at Tinirote, 30 miles north of Wairoa, last week-end. A Native named Richard Grant went out pighunting and after killing a pig set about cleaning it. In doing so he threw odds knd ends of meat to his dogs. His loaded rifle was leaning against a tree, and the dogs, in fighting ovor the meat, dislodged the rifle, causing the charge to explode. The bullet entered Grant's left arm, and though the wound was not apparently sericus complications set in and the man died three days later.
