SOUTHLAND MARKET REPORT, j The Shropshire is now due at. Blufl. t» 1 load 25, (XX) sacks of oats for Avonmouth, , and this quantity is about 25 per cent. of the total held in store in Southland. A census of oats in the produce bas jnit been made, which shows tbat tke quantity j in store hardly exceeds 50 per cent. of j that in stock at the same time last year. i This is despite the fact that there has j been very little shipping to northern ports from Bluff during the year, butthelwiy I saies for seed and the exceptional local demand have brought about this positi®. j Merchants are of opinion that prices will 1 remain firm, and even probably improve,. J and in this connection it might be noted 1 that the local market has always been on j a parity with the prices paid to larmers early in the season, merchants in .10 sit> having followed the 'drop in the nortn. The chaff market is firm, prime quality being worth £7 10s on trucks, but in vkw of the fact that merchants will sbortly require all the available accommodaiion I for wool, prices are expected to receds. ] With the exception of the local demand for seed purpose3 the ryegrass market is rather quiet, there being little wholesale 1 inquiry from the north. For 251b to 4olb machine-dressed seed merchants are a'-king 9s per bushel, f.o.b., aird up to 10s 1 for 301b to 311b seed. There is virtually nothing to report in j the hemp market, very little being n»nl{" j factured and no opportunity of doing h"' ness with London at payable prices. considerable quantity of the hemp in £|°rfl will go forward to London next v/ee • . During the past week the stock ®ar ' has been fairly quiet. At country saes the noticeable f eature was the large en ij : of store cattle. The demand is aiB easy, and prices in this section arc w j siderably lower than a month ago. j the exception of three and f°ur"}'ea' | steers store cattle are practicablly mu able. Very few sheep are offering, an offerings are mostly ewes and 1»® these are selling on a par w^' p ; ruling the last fortnight. Dry sheeptainty J receded in price owing to the unctf ^ of the coming wool season. rlctS be quoted ,8 0 I Fat Cattle. — Extra prime bull0^' , to £29; prime, £20 to JB22'10>i J down to £16; extra prime coW®' £18 ; prime, £12 to £13 ; unfimshed, ^ to £9; extra prime heifers, £ to prime, £12 to £13; d"" mi A four-year'0^ Store Cattle. — and ^ to steers, in forward condition, tffC, £14 10; average, £11 10s to ^ ^ year-old steers, good s°rt8' .rg. enipfy 10s; yearlings, £3. 10s to ^ ^ cows, £6 to £7 accordmg ^ dition ; inferior, £2 to £4- 10s ; W
