WYNDHAM HOCKEY GIRLS SOCIAL EVENING.

On Tuesday evening, the 24th August, 1920, the memfcers of the Wyndham Girls' Hoekey Club held a social in the Oddfellows' Hall, to wliich a number of patrons of th.e Club were invited. A pleasant evening was spent with games and competitions The Club's tcam were the winners of the Eastern District Cup (presented by Mr G. C. Hamilton of Gore), and it was 011 view heing greatly admired. Mr D'Arcy Raymond presided and remarked that Dr Baird (the Club's President) was to have occupied the chair, but otaer duties had called him awa.y. The social was in itself a good thing, and then they "would hav,e the honour of pre-sent-ing the Hamilton Cup for safe keeping to Miss U-dy, th.e Club's captain. Later he read a letter received from Mr D. D. Steadman (President of tho Eastern District Hotkey Association) congratulating the Ciub on its glorious win and apologising for his absence. Major Rice, called upon for t-he duty of presenting the Cup said he had much pfeasure in presenting the Cup to Miss Udy, the captain. The Chairman expressed the Club's appreciation of t-he work, and infiueiice of Dr Baird, and in tlie words of oue of the members oi the Club. he had "dorie every - thing" for the C'lub; he had coached them on the field and given them evening lectures. He had attended meetings 011 their behalf and conveved some of the players-in his car to Gore to play matclies. The girls were thoroughly sincere in their appreciation for D11 Baird. .Mr Corrie expressed the thanks of th.e gue.sts for the evening entertainment and hoped that the girls would continue t-o demonstrate their superiority and if ever the Cup was wrestled from them he hoped it woukl only be by the Wyndham B team. Musical honours were accorded the Club, Dr Baird and Miss Wilson. A dainty supper was served by t-he members of the Club, which was enjoyed by all present.
