ADVANCE ACCOUNTS.

We beg to submit for the approval of the Board, that Advauce Accounts be opened as follows :— (1) £10 (ten pounds) at Tuatapere : For use by store-keeper, I. A. Jones, for the payment of telephone calls, postage stamps, small freig'ht aci counts and other petty expenses, which he is called upon to pay from time to time by the various departments. He has been in the habit of paying these charges out of his own pocket and obtaining refund by preparing voucher at end of month and attaching recei'pts. He has asked that some other arrangement be made and to overcome the difficuity the above suggestion is made. (2) £50 (fifty pounds), at Monowai : For use by Mr Walker, Resident Engineei', for the purpose of paying off men who resign or are dismissed before Ihe close of the pay period, thus obviating the necfissi'ty of men having to come into Invercargill for their money. Strict supervision will he kept over the above accounte and periodically audited by the Chief Clerk who will instruct the Officers referred to how the accounts are to be kept. Should the above meet with the approval of the 'Board, we shali be glad if you will please take the necessary action and have the accounts opened at an early date.
