KCRE.1SED RATES ANNOUNCED. The Postmaster-General announces that the following alterations of postage and telegraph charges will come into force on August 1st : — Letters and letter caids, inland, from Ud for 4oz to 2d for 2oz ; Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and certain other countries, from 11, d to 2d. P ostcards from ld to ltd. Late fee from ld to 2d. Packets (comprising commercial papers, books, and printed papers, pattern and sample packets, and unregistered magazines, inland, from ld for the first 2oz and -gd for each additional 2oz, to 1-J,d for each 4oz up to 11b. Newspapers, inland, from -J,d to ld. The fee for registration is raised from 2d to 3d. Inland parcels from 41, d to 6d for the first pound. The fee for insurance of parcels, inland, is raised from 2d to 3d up to £2. For private letter -boxes the charge is altered from £1 to £1 10s per annuni, and for private mailbags £2 to £2 10, s per annum. — Money Order Branch. — Money Orde1*s. — The new rates are By post payable in New Zealand, ld for each £1 with minimum of 6d. Payable beyond New Zealand (except in Australia, United States of America, or Canada) 6d for each £1. Payable in the United States of America and Canada, 5d for each 2s. By telegraph, payable in New Zealand, the sa.me as by post, plus telegraph fee of ls 6d if sent by ordinary telegram, or 3s if sent hy urgent telegram. Payable in the United Kingdom, the same as by post, plus cabling fe,e. Domestic orders, 9d each, includiug delivei*y fee. — Postal Notes. — The new commission rates are : — Up to 2s 6d, ld ; 3s to 15s, 2d ; 20s, 3d. — Telegraph Charges. — Inland ordinary telegrams : — Week days, ls for the first twelve words, and ld for each additional word. Urgent telegrams double these rates. Stuidays and public holidays the rates for week days. Registration of eode addresses, an increase from 10s to £1 per annum. TELEPHONE CHARGES. The scale of charges for toll comnrunications is raised as follows Up to twenty miles, 8d for the first three minutes and 2d for each additional minute or fraction thereof ; up to fifty iniles, 9d and 3d ; 75 miles miles, ls and 4d ; 100 miles, ls 6d and 6d ; 150 miles, 2s 3cl and 9d ; 200 miles, 3s and ls ; 250 miles, 3s 9d and ls 3d ; 300 miles, 4s 6d and ls 6d ; 350 miles, 5s 3d and ls 9a; 400 iniles, 6s and 2s; 450 miles, 6s 9d and 2s 3d ; 500 miles, 7s 6d and 2s od. For communications from subscribers s.peaking from their own telephones, lialf these rates up to ten miles only. Ni.ght toll communications at half rates will be availahle from 10 p.m. instead of 8 p.m.
