OTAHUTI NOTES.
The formation of the Gentral Rugby Union being complete, the fixtures for the banner commenced last Saturday, when Otahuti met and defeated Calcium on the latter's ground by six points to three, while V aianawa journeyed to Drummond and scored a win over the home team by nine points to nil; the Wright's Bush club drawing the first bye. ihe Otahuti v. Calcium match was fast throughout and in the first spell some fine work was vvitnessed, but as the game vvore on, want of training was very not-ice-able, with the result, back play vvas not so good. Otahuti s first try was the result of really first-class hooking and passing, the wing (C. Lindsay), scoring with plenty of room, the kick failing ; the second score from a line-out was placed by Steele, the team s well known pacer. Rogers, wingforward, Mc'Crostie and ^inlayson, hookers, were in good form, also R. Sim, C. Donald and G. Crieve, who, apart from their capabilities as footballers are to be credited with an extraordinary amount : of bull-dog gam.eness, which should De an ; inspiration to the rising generation ; the I latter unfortunately for the team has had \ his nose broken, and with J. McCrostie, ! a fast and consistent player, who lias had | his ankle sev.erely twisted, will put the ! team at a disadvantage for a week or ; two. Calcium had the misfortune to lose the i services of J, Baird, and therefore played ! one man short, which is not a very satis- ! factory state of affairs either for themselves or their opponents. The team played well and are to be congratulated ! on the small score registered against them. | A. McKenzie, J. Lindsay, S. Lindsay and T. Darragh, w-ere in good form, Darragh especially play ing a heady game and his efforts at camouilage would have been at- j tended with far better results had he not been such a brillian-fc planet among the other stars. j Morton and T. McKenzie were easily the hest of the forwards and are two good players. Mr F. O'Connell controlleo the game to the entire satisfaction of the sporting community. Messrs T. F. Crieve and J. Darragh, acting as line umpires, carri.ed out their duties in a dignified man- . ner neeessary for such important work. The ladies of Calcium supplied refresh- : ments which were greatly appreciated by the visitimg team. Ncxt Saturday, Calcium meets Waiau- | awa, at Waianawa, and Wrights Bush j meet Otahuti, at Otahuti, both matches at 3 p.m. Drummond a bye.
