The Officer administering the Government transmits for the consideration of the House of Representatives the accompanying copies of the undermentioned correspondence between the Commissioner of Crown Lands at Wellington and the Colonial Secretary regarding the preparation and issue of Crown Grants, in certain cases, under the Land Regulations, of 4th March, 1853. The point in question is whether it would not be advisable to declare by an act of the Legislature, that when a Crown Grant is issued the legal estate became vested in the purchaser from the Crown from the day of sale. WYNYARD, Officer administering the Government, The Officer Administering the Government, in accordance with 62 and 65 clauses of the New Zealand Constitution Act, transmits for the information of the House of Representatives the undermentioned accounts of disbursments. Sums paid for defraying the expenses of the services mentioned in the Schedule to the New Zealand Constitution Act, for the nine months, ended the 31st March, 1855, as far as accounts have been received. Sums paid on account of the Survey of land and the collection of the Revenue arising from the sale of the Crown Lands, for the nine months, ended 31st March, 1855, as far as the accounts have been received. Sums paid 011 account of the collection of Customs Revenue of New Zealand, for the nine months ended 31st March, 1855, as far as accounts have been received. These returns are accompanied by a Return, showing the offices, names of officers, rates of salaries &c., for the financial year, 1854—5. The other two returns alluded to in the (!2 clause of the Constitution Act, shewing the disbursements on account of purchases of land from aboriginal Natives and on account of the debts due to the New Zealand Company, will be forwarded to the House by the Officer Administering the Government, in an early message.
