(а) Provision was made under " Salaries " for the full staff requirements. The required staff has not yet been employed and expenditure will be less than anticipated. £153,500 provided on main estimates. (б) As the authority controlling the International Airport in Fiji, the New Zealand Government is responsible, in the first instance, for all expenditure on the airport for housing, furniture for staff, &e. This expenditure is chargeable to a " pool account," of which the New Zealand Government bears 33| per cent. The balance will be recoverable. (6) Increased expenditure due to operation of additional aircraft. £l,BOO provided on main estimates. (d) Expenditure underestimated. £2OO provided on main estimates. (e) Expenditure on hire of Post and Telegraph Department vehicles greater than anticipated. This is due to early and late shifts at aeradio stations not served by public transport. £2,700 provided on main estimates. (/) Shortage of staff, combined with the necessity to staff aeradio stations both in New Zealand and Fiji during Sundays and public holidays, has increased the expenditure on overtime. £3OO provided on main estimates. (g) New Zealand's contribution has been increased to £8,205. £5,750 provided on main estimates. (h) Refunds to aero clubs, &c., for expenditure incurred on searching for missing aircraft. (i) Expenditure underestimated. £2,130 provided on main estimates. (j) The establishment of a repair workshop has necessitated greater expenditure on tools and equipment. £750 provided on main estimates.
