NATIONAL EMPLOYMENT SERVICE— continued

(a) £30,000 provided on main estimates. Additional provision necessary for additional establishment cost of -workers' camps —Petone camp, £10,000; Mangere camp, £2,500. (6) £8,256 provided on main estimates for operating-costs and £1,500 for buildings: equipment and establishment costs of the Public Service Boys' Hostel. Additional provision necessary to provide for the operating and establishment costs of the Public Service Girls' Hostel, which has just commenced operations. Estimated receipts, £2,500. (c) £140,000 provided on main estimates. Owing to the numbers accommodated in camps not being as great as was anticipated, it is possible to effect a saving under this item. (d) £150,000 provided on main estimates. As the employment position has been more buoyant than was originally anticipated and the number of semi-fit workers seeking work smaller than allowed for, it is possible to effect a saving under this item. («) £5,000 provided on main estimates. Additional amount required to meet fares and allowances, &c. T of party of 200 mental-hospital nurses coming from England.
