ORDER OF REFERENCE Extract from the Journals of the House of Representatives Wednesday, the sth Day of September, 1945 Ordered, "That Paper No. 98 (Public Accounts for the Financial Year ended 31st March, 1945: Report of Controller and Auditor-General and Details of Revenue and Expenditure (8.-l [Pt. II])) be referred to the Public Accounts Committee."—(Hon. Mr. Nash.)
REPORT Report on tihe Annual Report of the Controller and Auditor-General foe the Financial Year ending 31st March, 1945 (8.-l [Pi. II]) I have the honour to report that the Public Accounts Committee has examined the report of the Controller and Auditor-General for the financial year 1944-45 referred to it by the House, and has heard Mr. C. G. Collins and his officers and also officers of certain Departments reported on by him. As a result of its investigation, the Committee concurs in the comments contained in the report. Since previous inquiries by the Committee have been concerned with the accounts of the Armed Forces, the Committee is pleased to note an improvement in the state of these accounts, although some still leave much to be desired. It is to be hoped that the cessation of hostilities will make it possible for the Armed Forces to keep their accounts up to date, The Committee feels that it should mark the retirement of Mr. C. G. Collins by expressing its appreciation of the assistance he has readily given the Committee in its deliberations on reports submitted by him and also his courtesy and fairness on all occasions. The Committee trusts that he will long enjoy a well-earned retirement. T. H. McCombs, Chairman. 14th November, 1945.
