FRIENDLY SOCIETIES AND TRADE-UNIONS SIXTY-FIFTH ANNUAL REPORT BY THE REGISTRAR OF FRIENDLY SOCIETIES, FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31st DECEMBER, 1941.

Presented to both Houses of the General Assembly pursuant to the Friendly Societies Act, 1909, Section 9, and the Trade-unions Act, 1908, Section 16. The Registrar oe Friendly Societies to the Hon. the Minister. g IE Wellington, Ist July, 1942. I have the honour to submit the annual report of this Office for the year ended 31st December, 1941, in accordance with the provisions of the Friendly Societies Act, 1909, section 9, and the Tradeunions Act, 1908, section 16. REPORT. PART I.—FRIENDLY SOCIETIES. Legislation. Section 29 of the Statutes Amendment Act, 1941, amends the Friendly Societies Act, 1909, by increasing from £300 to £500 the maximum gross amount of an assurance for which a registered friendly society may contract with any person (subsection (2) of section 11), and the maximum gross amount which any member or any person claiming through a member shall be entitled to receive from any one or more of such societies (subsection (1) of section 51). Registrations. There was registered during the year one new branch, as follows —1.0.0. F. : Waitomo Rebekah Lodge. There wore also three isolated societies registered. The following registrations were cancelled by request —M.U.1.0.0.F. : Ohakune Lodge (Wanganui District), United Brothers Lodge and Queen of Maniototo Lodge (Otago District). 1.0.0. F. : Star of Rangiora Lodge, Edith Cavell Rebekah Lodge, Arlington Rebekah Lodge, and Rose of Arrow Rebekah Lodge. N.1.0.0.F. : United Brothers Lodge. 1.0. R. : Hope of Franklin Tent (New Zealand District). H.A.C.B.S. : St. John's Branch (Eltham), St. Joseph's Branch (Upper Hutt), and Cathedral Branch (Auckland), (New Zealand District) ; St. Patrick's Branch (Mapiu), St. Joseph's Branch (Te Aroha), and St. Michael's Branch (Rotorua), (Northern District). The following changes of name were registered—M.U.l.O.O.F. : " Vincent Lodge " to " United Vincent Lodge " (Otago District). N.1.0.0.F. : " Auckland Provincial District "to " Auckland Provincial District Lodge." There were 1,108 registrations at 31st December, 1941. Rules. The rules of forty-three societies and branches were amended during 1941, eight by complete amendment and thirty-five by partial amendment.
