DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR—continued.

REMARKS. » (a) Includes £2,366 ss. lid. for salaries of officers on loan from Post and Telegraph Department during quarter ended 31st March, 1939. (b) Salaries of clerical assistants now included under " Non-permanents. " (c) Administration of gold-mining scheme taken over by Mines Department as from Ist April, 1939. (d) Reduction due to reorganization of Department and transfer of officers to Social Security Department. (e) Provision made to cover cost of fitting up new offices in four main centres. (/) Employment promotion and placement work in other than four main centres is to be undertaken by officers of Social Security Department, and an assessed amount is to be paid to that Department to cover a proportion of the administration expenses. Provision is also made for payment of £600 to the Post and Telegraph Department in connection with the payment of subsidy claims. (g) Expenditure other than for grants and subsidies, due mainly to commitments entered into prior to 31st March, 1939, not coming to charge until the current financial year.
