REMARKS. (а) Increased provision due to inauguration of North Island vermin-control scheme. (б) Increased requirements this year due to office alterations at Head Office. (c) Last year the season was a closed one. Accordingly no expenditure was incurred under this item. (d) For the organization of local physical welfare and recreation. (e) For the provision of camping-facilities by the construction of huts and additional tracks in Tararuas and Lake Sumner areas. (f) The activities did not develop last year to the extent anticipated. (g) Covers expenditure on equipment, publicity, training courses, travelling-expenses, and miscellaneous items. (h) For the provision of an official organ to disseminate propaganda and advice appropriate to the fulfilment of the aims and objects of the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act, 1937. (») Number of officers, 26. Travelling-allowances, £588 2s. Bd.; travelling-expenses, £273 16s. 3d.; motor-hire, £44 6s. 2d. (j) Fees for medical attention to officers, £3 3s. ; payment to E. H. English for loss of bridle and girth loaned to Deer Destruction Branch, £2 10s. ; translation fee, ss. ; cost of decoration of departmental car at Rotorua to take part in annual Christmas festivities, 4s. 9d. : total, £6 2s. 9d. (k) Now included in item " General expenses." (I) Two motor-vehicles purchased, whereas estimates provided for one only. (to) Cost greater than originally estimated. (n) Close season last year. 4*
