So your lack of confidence is really created through the failure of the previous legislation ? —[The witness did not reply to this question.] With reference to the need of control over the road, and more or less a monopoly of certain undertakings, why do we have trade combines ? Is it not for the purpose of eliminating useless competition ? —We have trade combines certainly, but they do not stop competition. They are not State-protected. But in this case there must be control over the roads in order to make it worth while for organizations to provide facilities ?—The London General Omnibus Co. have no protection. Hon. Mr. Veitcfi: The Bill will be of great benefit to your districts ; I can promise you that.
