Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to deal with all matters in connection with defence ; with power to call for persons, papors, and records ; three to bo a quorum : the Committee to consist of Mr. Barnard, Mr. Dickie, Mr. Jenkins, Mr. Jordan, Colonel McDonald, Mr. Poison, Captain Rushworth, Mr. Samuel, Mr. Waite, and the mover."—(Hon. Praying for an alteration in the law in regards to soldiers' pensions, and for the fixing of a permanent pension for himself and wife. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 11th September, 1929.

No. 6.—Petition of David Barnett, of Whirinaki, Hokianga. Praying that he be granted approximately £270, being difference in rates of pay between New Zealand and Imperial Army rates, under Special General Order No. 554/1919.
