I hereby certify that the Revenue Accounts and balance-sheet have been duly examined and compared with the relative books and documents submitted for audit, and correctly state the position as disclosed thereby, except that— (1.) The accounts include charges against the Department for rent and £166,749 16s. 5d., value of assets taken over from War Expenses Account, for which there is no appropriation by Parliament, and also a charge for rent debited Education Department for which that Department possesses no parliamentary appropriation. (2.) Owing to the absence of any price-vouchers there is no means of verifying the writingdown to the extent of £98,355 155., Ordnance stocks alleged to have been overvalued in 1921. The Defence Department's assurance that no loss to the public has been caused either directly or indirectly owing to the revaluation is recorded.— G. F. C. Campbell, Controller and Auditor-General.
