REPORTS;

No. 3 of Session I, 1923. —Petition of Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, of Wellington. Praying that the standard of wages existing prior to the passing of the Expenditure Adjustment Act be reinstated. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that, in accordance with the request of petitioners, leave be given for petition to bo withdrawn. 28th August, 1924.

No. 202 of Session 11, 1923.- Petition of W. H. Parfitt and 454 Others, of Oreymouth. Praying that the Greymouth Borough Council be granted half the cost of protective works against erosion on the banks of the Grey River. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 28th August, 1924.

No. 54. —Petition of William Hodge, of Christchurch. Praying for further inquiry into his claim for compensation for loss of employment in the New Zealand Railways Department. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 28th August, 1924.

No. 13. —Petition of the Co-operative Fruitgrowers of Otago (Limited) and 187 Others, of Dunedin. Praying that a Commission be set up to inquire into better railway facilities for the carriage of fruit. I am directed to report that the Railways Committee has carefully considered the above petition, and, in view of the endeavour made by the Railways Department to provide an adequate supply of suitable trucks for the carriage of fruit, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 28th August, 1924.

No. 3of Session 11, 1923.-—Petition of James Wall and 18 Others, of Pukerua. (First Report.) Praying that the. Government construct a road and bridge over railway at Pukerua. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this is not a matter for its consideration, and it accordingly has no recommendation to make. 9th September, 1924.

No. 268.—Petition of James Douglas, of Wellington. Praying for a compassionate allowance in recognition of his services in the Railway Department. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 30th September, 1924.

No. 279. —Petition of Alfred Augustine Kingston, of Papakura. Praying for compensation for loss of limb whilst employed by the New Zealand Railways Department. 1 am directed to report that, as the prayer of the petitioner has been given effect to, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 30th September, 1924.

Government Railways Amendment Bill. The Railways Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that the said Bill has been carefully considered, and the Committee recommends that it be allowed to proceed without amendment. 9th October, 1924,
