Praying for legislation extending the hours of employment for females working in restaurants and confectionery-shops. I am directed to report that the Committee has considered the above petitions and has no recommendation to make. 14th August, 1923.

No. 147. —Petition of New Plymouth Eetailers' Association, of New Plymouth. Praying that the Shops and Offices Act be amended to enable the present disabilities suffered by employers in respect to the weekly half-holiday of employees to be overcome. I am directed to report that the Committee has considered the above petition and has no recommendation to make. 15th August, 1923.

Inspection op Machinery Amendment Bill. The Labour Bills Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that the said Bill has been carefully considered, and the Committee recommends that it be not allowed to proceed this session. 21st August, 1923.

Companies Empowering Bill. The Labour Bills Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that the said Bill has been carefully considered, and the Committee recommends that it be allowed to proceed, with amendments as shown on the copy of the Bill attached. 21st August, 1923. i *

Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has held during the session six meetings, with an average attendance of seven members at each meeting. Seven petitions and three Bills were referred to the Committee, and reported upon to the House. 28th August, 1923.
