ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the Bouse of Representatives. Wednesday, the 4th Day of July, 1923. Ordered, " That Standing Order No. 219 be suspended, and that a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of fourteen members, to consider all matters relating to school-teachers, education, and public instruction generally, public-school training of teachers, higher education, technical education, manual instruction, and such other matters affecting education as may be referred to it; to have power to call for persons and papers ; three to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Atmore, Mr. Bitchener, Mr. Eraser, Mr. Hudson, Sir J, P. Luke, Mr. Masters, Mr. Nash, Mr. Poland, Mr. Potter, Mr. Sidey, Mr. Wright, Mr. Young, and the mover." — (Hon. Mr. Parr.) Wednesday, the 15th Day oe August, 1923. Ordered, " That the New Zealand University Amendment Bill be referred to the Education Committee."— (Hon. Mr. Parr.)

REPORTS. New Zealand University Amendment Bill. The Education Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has carefully considered the same, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed without amendment. 17th August, 1923.

No. 54. —Petition of John Dinnkrn. PRAYING that he be granted relief in respect of superannuation allowance granted him. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. The Committee is also of opinion that this is a case for special legislation. 28th August, 1923.
