society or branch to meet any contributions payable by that society or branch to a medical society shall be deemed to be a debt due from the member to his society or branch, and shall be recoverable as such. It has been found that some societies have invested benefit funds in Harbour Board debentures, which are not a security authorized by the principal Act. Such investments have been validated by the amending Act of 1922, but no statutory authority is given for future investments of that nature. The amending Act also provides that all fines imposed on its members by a registered friendly society or registered branch pursuant to its rules shall be recoverable by summary proceedings. Registrations. There were registered during the past year twenty-five new societies and branches, as follows : — M.U.1.0.0.F. : Manurewa Lodge, Tuakau Lodge, Papakura Lodge, Pupuke Lodge, Drury Lodge (Auckland District). 1.0.0. F. : Mizpah Rebekah Lodge, Te Wera Lodge, Bethesda Rebekah Lodge, Okaiawa Lodge, Esther Rebekah Lodge. A.O.F. : Court Hinemoa (Wellington District), Court Pride of Gore (United Otago District), Court Clarendon (not in any district). U.A.O.D. : Star of Otahuhu Lodge, Miro Lodge (Grand Lodge of the North Island of New Zealand). 1.0. R. : Hope of Franklin Tent (New Zealand District). H.A.C.B.S. : St. Benedict's Branch (Newton), St. Joseph's Branch (Grey Lynn). G.U.0.0.F. : The Grand United Order of Oddfellows, Friendly Society of New Zealand (affiliated to the Grand United Order of Oddfellows, Friendly Society of New South Wales), Newtown Alpha Branch, Miramar Branch, Petone Pioneer Branch. There were also three isolated friendly societies registered. The following registrations were cancelled by request: 1.0.0. F. : Star of Bombay Lodge. A.O.F. : Court Alexandra (Auckland District). 1.0. R. : Whangaroa Tent (New Zealand District). H.A.C.B.S. : St. Patrick's Branch (Fairlie), Michael Davitt Branch (Kumara). I.F.S. : The Blackball Sick Fund Benefit Society. S.A.S. : The Christchurch Central Co-operative Money Club. The following branches were dissolved by instrument: —M.U.1.0.0.F. : Bunnythorpe Lodge (Wanganui District), and Pleasant Point Lodge (South Canterbury District). The following transfer of engagements was registered : —U.A.O.D. : Lyttelton Hearts of Oak Lodge to Ivy of Linwood Lodge (Grand Lodge of Canterbury, New Zealand). The following changes of name were registered : —M.U.1.0.0.F. : " The New Plymouth District of the New Zealand Branch of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows Friendly Society " to " The Taranaki District of the New Zealand Branch of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows Friendly Society." U.A.O.D. : " Stratford Lodge, No. 56 "to " Stratford Lodge, No. 54 " (Grand Lodge of the North Island of New Zealand). H.A.C.B.S. : " Greymouth Branch "to " St. Patrick's Branch " (Greymouth). I.F.S. : " The Hastings United Friendly Societies' Medical Association " to " Hastings District United Friendly Societies Association." The position of the orders in respect of registration is shown by the following summary as at the beginning and end of 1922 : —

The list of societies and branches on the register as at the end of 1921 as published, last year should be amended in accordance with the above changes. Rules. The rules of 46 societies and branches came under revision in one form or another for amendment during 1922. Complete Amendment of Rules registered. Complete amendments were registered during the year, viz. : — M.U.1.0.0.F. —Parnell Lodge, Rotorua Lodge (Auckland District) ; St. George Lodge (Southland District). I.O.O.F.—Grand Lodge of New Zealand. A.O.F. —Hawke's Bay District, Auckland District.
