The very cordial welcome which all on board the two ships received from Sir Claud and Lady Mallet, from the inhabitants of the canal zone, and from the citizens of Panama and Colon, was most gratifying, and is very much appreciated by myself, by my Government, and by the relatives of the soldiers who benefited by it, as well as by the recipients themselves.
