No. 278. —Petition of George Edward Sole, of New Plymouth. Petitioner prays for issue of further scrip in place of scrip previously issued and lost, or money value of same, for military services rendered. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee, the scrip having been granted, the Government, if they are satisfied that no payment has been made, be recommended to issue new scrip, or make a money grant in lieu thereof. 20th October, 1011.

No. 291. —Petition of C. A. Young and 5 Others. Petitioners pray for the encouragement by the Government of viticulture in the Dominion. I am directed to report that, as regards clause 1 of the petition, the Committee has no recommendation to make, as a question of policy is involved. That the Committee is of opinion that a system of inspection should be carried out to ensure the production of a light, pure wine, free from outside adulteration. 20th October, 1911.

No. 157. —Petition of Stuart Newall and .i 2 Others, of Wellington. Petitioners pray for pensions of 10s. per week as a military pension in lieu of any pension to which they may be entitled under the Old-age Pensions Acts. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, in respect to veterans holding the New Zealand War Medal and who reside in New Zealand. 24th October, 1911.

No. 315. —Petition of .Tank Meikle, of Mataura. Petitioner prays for compensation on account of loss sustained through her husband being wrongfully convicted and imprisoned. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make on this petition. 25th October, 1911.

No. 310. —Petition of William J. Murphy, of Wellington. Petitioner prays for compensation for loss sustained through certain land transactions. 1 am dh-ected to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make on this petition. 25th October, 1911.

No. 289. —Petition of John Runciman, of Orakau. Petitioner prays for consideration on account of services rendered during the course of the Maori War. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make on this petition. 25th October. 1911. *

Special Report (re Chairman). I am directed to report that this Committee desires to record its hearty appreciation of the great care and attention devoted by the Chairman. Mr. Craigie, to the business of the Committee, and of the able and courteous manner in which his duties have been carried out during this session of Parliament; and that this resolution be recorded in the minutes of the Committee and be reported to the Hnust;. 24th October, 1911.

Special Report (re Clerk). I am directed to report that the Committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the services of the clerk, Mr. J. l>. Haselden, and that the Government be recommended to permanently appoint him, so that the Committee will be assured of his capable services and experience for future sessions. 20th October, 1911.
